Understanding the Times
Grades: 11, 12
Couse description
Today’s world is a constant exchange of ideas. Many of the disagreements we have in our time arise from the different ideas people hold about truth, God, humanity, and how the world works. In this course, students study a range of ideas and beliefs promoted in our modern-day context. Students first study the core beliefs of six different religious, economic, political, and philosophical worldviews, then apply those worldviews to ten areas that are basic to decisions made throughout life. The Christian worldview in particular is studied extensively, but it is also held up as the standard of comparison to other worldviews and disciplines. Students are equipped to understand the ideas of their time, and to engage and defend the Christian worldview in the public sphere. The content for this course comes from the Understanding the Times curriculum produced by Summit Ministries. Students use this e-text as their primary source.
