Theater, Cinema, and Film Production

Grades: 10, 11

Couse description

Lights! Camera! Action! This course introduces students to the basics of film and theater productions, including lighting, sound, wardrobe, and camerawork as well as acting and directing. The course also explores the history of film and theater and the influence that they have had on Western society. In that light, students begin to explore the significance of film and theater for the Christian faith. They learn about Christian approaches to film, the roles of religion and even Scripture in the development of theater, and a variety of virtues and life skills that can be gained in the processes of film and theater production. To make learning concrete, students also analyze and critique three influential American films throughout the course: Casablanca, Singin’ in the Rain, and The Wizard of Oz.
