Elementary Social Studies Grade 1

Grades: 1

Couse description

Elementary Social Studies Grade 1 introduces students to biblical truths related to history, community, and citizenship as they develop foundational social studies skills and knowledge. Students come to recognize the Bible as the primary source of truth and learn the biblical account of history. They study important concepts and skills related to history, geography, and economics; learn about important holidays and traditions in American culture; learn to read different types of maps and use them to locate specific places; analyze the difference between history and fiction; study the lives of the early presidents and first ladies; learn about the importance of money and consumer choice; and analyze grade-appropriate passages to reinforce reading comprehension and writing skills. Students also explore the purposes of major Christian holidays; learn about the purpose of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection; and explore how symbolism is used in the Bible. In the process, students develop an understanding of Christlike citizenship in their homes, school, and community by learning how to apply biblical principles to daily life.
