Elementary Language Arts Grade 1
Grades: 1
Couse description
The Elementary Language Arts Grade 1 course begins with a review of letters and words. Students gain confidence in their reading skills as they practice reading comprehension strategies. Throughout the course, students participate in informative, narrative, and opinion-writing compositions as well as practice grammar skills and expand their speaking and listening skills. Students are exposed to the five essential components of reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency) through engaging text, including several Bible stories, and through interactive lessons. As they explore topics related to English language arts, students also learn the definition of faith, study stewardship as a Christian responsibility, ascertain the true meaning of Christian holidays, such as Advent and Easter, and examine informative text and tools that help us understand the Bible. Students explore a myriad of additional topics through integration across content areas and are surrounded with adventure-filled lessons throughout the course, which helps them see that learning is a great adventure!
